Did you know that Dick Van Dyke, Gene Hackman, Donald O'Connor and Bobby Short are all from the same high school in Danville, Illinois? That's crazy and that's my old "stomping ground" when I was in college at the University of Illinois. I used to date a girl from Danville.
Do you remember Bill Walton, the famous basketball player from UCLA and the NBA Trail Blazers, Celtics and Clippers in the 70's and 80's?
Did you know he is one of the biggest "Dead Heads" in the nation. That's right, he follows the Grateful Dead on tour across the states just like thousands of other crazy baby boomers have been doing for decades.
What were you doing the first time you heard "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones? Maybe you were sitting in your favorite snack shop on the South side of Chicago having a burger with your friends.
These are our memories and great memories they are. And.....We are the only generation to have been lucky enough to experience them.
Dick Van Dyke, Leave It To Beaver, Volkswagen Beetles, Hippies, Rock Concerts, TV Sets with rabbit ears, AM/FM radios and Frozen TV Dinners. They are indelible parts of our past.
Rick Bava, in his book "In Search of the Baby Boomer Generation" brings them all back out in the light and makes you feel like they just happened yesterday.
Rick was kind enough to send me a copy of his book and I have been reading it every night before I go to bed. No, that's not between 6 and 6:30 every night. Even if I am exhausted, I sneak in a couple of articles.
I'm just over half way done and couldn't wait until I was finished to tell you about it.
If you are looking for a great way to journey back to your youth, make sure to get yourself a copy and discover how Rick captures the essence of what it's like to be a Baby Boomer today.
It's easy to tell them about it.
Forward it on to them or just email them my blog link at www.survive55.com.
The more Baby Boomers we can help, the better place we make this world !!!
