Yesterday we talked about how to get a FREE membership to SAM’s Club, possibly for life.
Today, we will do the same for Costco.
If you know anything about Costco Wholesale then you know they operate a lot like SAM'S Club.
They have a lot of stuff you can buy in bulk and you have to be a member before you can buy.
They have estimated fees for their 1 year membership that range between 50 and 150 bucks.
You give them some basic information, pick the service level you want, pay them, and get your photo taken.
A few minutes later you are handed a card with your picture on it and presto your in.
In order to get your Free 1 Year Costco Membership you absolutely have to pay for the first year.
There is no way to get around that part of it.
At Costco you get a second card as part of the Costco Membership Program which you can give to your spouse, significant other, relative, etc.
So if you are smart you can take the first fee and split it with a friend or relative.
See, you are already saving money.
Just make sure they come with you so you can both get your cards at the same time.
Now use your 1 year Costco membership like you normally do for the next 50+ weeks.
The primary member has to do this.
The person that has your second card can’t do this, but they can come along to get the second card again.
Slide your 1 year Costco membership card over to the clerk and ask for a refund.
They will ask you why and you tell them “I don’t like the fact that it expires.”
They will give you the money, likely apologize and that will be that.
1. Once you get your money you can go to a different Costco and fill out a new membership.
2. You can decide right at the same counter (or beforehand) which membership you want now and then fill out a new membership application.
Give the clerk the money they handed back to you plus any addition money to cover yearly cost increases and tell the clerk “I would like a 1 year Costco membership please.”
If you decided to just do it right then and there, it is possible that the clerk might give you a hard time but they have been trained not to.
Depending on their personality, they might contact the manager (sometimes people make this more complicated than it is) for approval.
The manager will come down and approve the transaction.
The whole process takes about 10 minutes and you save between 50 and 150 bucks.
Remember, if in doubt; look over at the sign behind the Customer Service desk that explains the guarantee.
“We will happily issue a full refund for your membership at any time for any reason.”
There is no fine print.
This is their rule, and a large reason to purchase a membership.
It is put there for 2 reasons.
1) To assure you that you will not be sucked into a membership that has no value without the ability to get your money back.
2) To make sure the thrifty customers who wouldn’t normally purchase a membership have an outlet to address their issue with paying money for the privilege of shopping.
COSTCO'S RISK FREE 100% SATISFACTION GUARANTEE
"We will refund your membership fee in full at any time if you are dissatisfied."
If you are comfortable enough, you have the capability to have both a SAM’S Club and a Costco membership for free for life.
You are not “Breaking Bad” here you are exercising an option that both Costco and SAM’S club has offered you right up front.
Both Costco and SAM’S Club realize there is a certain portion of their membership base that does not like the idea of supporting the club through a paid for membership and this return policy is an effective way to remedy that issue and make those customers happy.
Don’t Worry, Be Happy !!!
Again, a warm Thank You to Philip Ferreira the founder of Reviewboard Magazine for this information.
